How to Use \u5728 in Chinese<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u5728 is a vocabulary word that has several different uses and functions. We can see this word very often because it is the 8th most common Chinese character. There are a few ways you can use it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Express A Location with \u5728<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

First of all, it can be used to indicate the location and used to state \u2018to be located at\u2019<\/strong>. For example, \u6211\u5728\u5bb6 (w\u01d2 z\u00e0i j\u012ba) means I\u2019m at home. We can also say that \u6211\u4e0d\u5728\u5bb6 (w\u01d2 b\u00fa z\u00e0i j\u012ba), which means I\u2019m not at home. \u4e0d\u5728 (b\u00fa z\u00e0i) is the negotiation of \u5728. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Besides that, we can also indicate the location with \u5728 before verbs<\/strong>. We can use \u5728 to include the place where an action takes place, by placing \u5728 between a verb and a place. For example, \u6211\u4f4f\u5728\u9a6c\u6765\u897f\u4e9a (w\u01d2 zh\u00f9 z\u00e0i m\u01ce l\u00e1i x\u012b y\u00e0) which means I live in Malaysia. This sequence can be used for several verbs like \u4f4f (live), \u7ad9 (stand), \u653e (put), and \u5750 (sit). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • \u6211\u4f4f\u5728\u57ce\u5e02 (w\u01d2 zh\u00f9 z\u00e0i ch\u00e9ng sh\u00ec) I live in a city. <\/li>
  • \u6211\u7ad9\u5728\u6905\u5b50\u4e0a (w\u01d2 zh\u00e0n z\u00e0i y\u01d0zi sh\u00e0ng) I stand on a chair. <\/li>
  • \u6211\u628a\u4e66\u653e\u5728\u684c\u4e0a (w\u01d2 b\u01ce sh\u016b f\u00e0ng z\u00e0i zhu\u014d shang) I put the book on the table.<\/li>
  • \u6211\u5750\u5728\u8bfe\u5ba4\u91cc (w\u01d2 zu\u00f2 z\u00e0i k\u00e8 sh\u00ec l\u01d0 ) I sit in a classroom.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Express An Action On Progress with \u5728<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    \u5728 and \u6b63\u5728 (zh\u00e8ngz\u00e0i) are used to suggest ongoing actions at the present.<\/strong> Both of these words can only be used with actions, not adjectival, stative, and modal verbs. For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • \u5f1f\u5f1f\u5728\u5ff5\u4e66 (d\u00ecdi z\u00e0i ni\u00e0nsh\u016b) Younger brother is studying.<\/li>
    • \u5988\u5988\u5728\u716e\u996d (m\u0101ma z\u00e0i zh\u01d4f\u00e0n) Mother is cooking. <\/li>

      You can also use \u5728 in a question. For instance, \u4f60\u5728\u505a\u4ec0\u4e48? (n\u01d0 z\u00e0i zu\u00f2 sh\u00e9nme) What are you doing?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Use \u73b0\u5728(xi\u00e0n z\u00e0i) in the present<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

      The word \u73b0\u5728 can be used when we are talking about actions occurring in the present.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Use \u5728 to express the scoop of something<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

        Sometimes, \u5728 is combined with \u65b9\u9762 (f\u0101ng mi\u00e0n) to explain the phrase \u201cin the area of\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Errors When Using \u5728<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

          Some people will make mistakes when using the word \u5728. Here are some common mistakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          1. Wrong Position <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

          The word \u5728 should be used after the verb <\/strong>when the sentence explains an action that occurs in a place<\/strong>. For example, I put a vase on the table.
          Wrong – \u6211\u628a\u82b1\u74f6\u5728\u684c\u4e0a\u653e\u3002(w\u01d2 b\u01ce hu\u0101 p\u01d0n z\u00e0izhu\u014dshang f\u00e0ng)

          However, \u5728 should be put before a verb<\/strong> when there is a location. For example, I study in the library.
          Wrong – \u6211\u8bfb\u4e66\u5728\u56fe\u4e66\u9986\u3002(w\u01d2 d\u00fash\u016b z\u00e0i t\u00fash\u016bgu\u01cen\uff09

          When some verbs are used with a time phrase<\/strong>, \u5728 should be put after the verb<\/strong>. For example, I was born in 1997.

          2. Localizer Missing At the End of the Sentence with \u5728<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

          There should be a localizer when \u5728 is used to express locations or a scope. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

          We can use:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          • \u5728……\u4e2d (z\u00e0i \u2026 zh\u014dng)<\/li>
          • \u5728……\u4e0a (z\u00e0i \u2026 sh\u00e0ng)<\/li>

            Example 1: The book is on the table.
            Wrong – \u90a3\u672c\u4e66\u5728\u684c\u5b50\u3002(n\u00e0 b\u011bn sh\u016b z\u00e0i zhu\u014dzi)
            Correct – \u90a3\u672c\u4e66\u5728\u684c\u5b50\u4e0a\u3002(n\u00e0 b\u011bn sh\u016b z\u00e0i zhu\u014dzi sh\u00e0ng)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Example 2: In the crowd.
            Wrong – \u5728\u4eba\u7fa4\u3002(z\u00e0i r\u00e9nq\u00fan)
            Correct – \u5728\u4eba\u7fa4\u4e2d\u3002(z\u00e0i r\u00e9nq\u00fan zh\u014dng)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Example 3: He is talented in music.
            Wrong – \u4ed6\u5728\u97f3\u4e50\u5f88\u51fa\u8272\u3002(t\u0101 z\u00e0i y\u012bn yv\u00e8 h\u011bn ch\u016bs\u00e8)

            Example 4: Your purse is in your bag.
            Wrong – \u4f60\u7684\u94b1\u5305\u5728\u4e66\u5305\u3002(n\u01d0de qi\u00e1nb\u0101o z\u00e0i sh\u016bb\u0101o)
            Correct – \u4f60\u7684\u94b1\u5305\u5728\u4e66\u5305\u91cc\u3002(n\u01d0de qi\u00e1nb\u0101o z\u00e0i sh\u016bb\u0101o l\u01d0)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            3. Time Noun Missing At the End of the Sentence with \u5728<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

            The phrase \u7684\u65f6\u5019 (de sh\u00ed h\u00f2u) should be put at the end when the sentence is expressing a time. This phrase means \u2018when\u2019 or \u2018at the time\u2019. For example, I traveled to Japan during the school holiday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Wrong – \u5728\u653e\u5047\uff0c\u6211\u5230\u65e5\u672c\u53bb\u65c5\u6e38\u3002(z\u00e0i f\u00e0ngji\u00e0, w\u01d2 d\u00e0o R\u00ecb\u011bn q\u00f9 L\u01da y\u00f3u)

            4. Misusing \u5728 and \u518d (z\u00e0i)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

            Some people will confuse the word \u5728 and \u518d (z\u00e0i). Both of them have the same sound to pronounce but actually, they have different meanings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

            I\u2019m sure that you have understood the meaning of \u5728. Now, let\u2019s talk about \u518d, which means again. People are usually confused with these two words and use \u518d to replace \u5728 in the sentence. Hence, you should understand the difference between them to make sure your sentence would not get wrong. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
